Give some width to a bezier curve? Help! :)

Hi everyone!

A picture is worth a thousand words so I start with that:

So I have my bezier curve fitting the shape of the 3! But I can’t manage to give it some width!

The point is of course to reproduce the original 3

I tried a lot of thing in curve mode or converted to a mesh

In the curve panel I couldnt get what I need
Solidify modifier doesnt help at all
Skin modifier is very ugly result and almost not tweakable
I also tried to extrudre the mesh from top view but no luck!

Thank you for your help!!

Cheers

In the curve’s data Geometry panel you have multiple options:

  • Extrude for flat like shape
  • Bevel → Depth for circular profile
  • Bevel → Object for custom profile (create a custom curve profile then insert it in this field).

Example of custom curve profile:

and a taper shape to make the curve shrink on its extremities

not sure you can achieve it easily with curves only, here is a try with a mesh with Array + Curve modifier, and I scaled the vertices with alt S:

Hi

I did the bevel depth and then scaled to 0 on the Z axis.

Taper also helps for the final result

Thank you both for your time!

  1. Use curves to form the outline of the 3.

  2. Join the curves into one and convert to mesh.

  3. Fill the edges to make a face.

  4. Extrude the face on z axis and bevel the edges.

Finaly got it like I wanted but filling the edges/vertex doesnt work

so I have no face and can’t extrude…

I tried the solidify modifier but, of course, it doesnt create faces…

Any idea?

EDIT: I made it by creating a Text and convert it to a mesh, then I tweaked the mesh to look like my reference.

Thx!!

Just a tip, if you want to take a screen shot in Blender you can head to the ’ Window’ menu (File - Edit - Render - Window ) and select ‘ Save Screenshot ’ (last option) from there and no need for another program (or a phone).

Thx for the tip
