Glass and Mirror Problem. Pic, *.blend and Animation inside.

You can still downlaod the video and the Blend file if you want to play around with it.

I never had problems with Glass in YafRay, then again, I never had to put the glass in front of an object with a mirrored material either.

Here, I am trying to make a generic headlight for an automobile.

You probably need to turn off the shadow button at the material tab on the object thats behind the lens.

I had similar problems with a cd-jewelcase. if the case whas closed you coudnt see the cd untill i turned off the shadows of it.

I tried that. It does nothing.

The thing is, you can see the cube, but not the mirror.

I also increased the ray depth (YafRay 2nd Tab) several times up to the max and still nothing. Download the Blend file and see.

Did some playing on the .blend fileand you need to lower your RAYMIR setting to 0.00 on the glass. It is set to 1.00. I did it and it worked.

That’s the default “Glass Setting” in YafRay.

I lowered it to 0.00 and nothing changed.

Can you upload the blend file, fixed?

I downloaded your blend file and it was set at 1.00. I redownloaded and same thing.

hmmm… I don’t think downloading the same file again will make any difference.

could it be transparent shadows??

Select your Chrome object.
Edit mode.
Select all vertices.
[w] > Flip Normals

All I did was flip the normals on your headlight (mirror part, not glass). It seemed to work fine for me. The normals are facing in, so maybe the raytracer thought that the “rays” went the other way?? Interesting…

not sure if it applies to yafray, but do you have TraShadow on?

I would have never thought of that. This only seems to apply to mirrored surfaces.
