Golden Hind

very good continuer

Today’s update:

Spent the last 2 hours messing around with the depth of field. I got frustrated so I kept the DoF that I currently had and just used a ID mask to blur the background islands. I also ended up remaking the fog and clouds because I deleted them in my frustration…

I dont really like how the camera is positioned mostly because you can only see the part of water that is in the shadow of the ship, which I think is the worst part of the water. Plus the ship appears close to the shore even though I moved it back.

The target for the birds also needs to be changed, they were flying towards the mountain in the background (left mountain) but now its behind the foreground rock. I want them to be spread out more like the previous render and to be a bit farther from the camera so its harder to see how low poly they are.

I’ve decided to take a break from this. I purchased Final Fantasy: War of the Lions and I’ve been playing that non-stop over the weekend and I think Ill be playing it for most of the week. When I come back to this I might start a new scene, it will either be a viewpoint from the boat or somewhere on the deck.

Never a bad thing to step away and come back again!..Enjoy your game! Oh and that link you posted for me is awesome. I found it when looking for reference. I look at it at least once a day for inspiration but I don’t want it to influence me to much since I definitively do not have the time to get caught on details like that… but I wish I did!

Amazing!! I love the cannon!!!

Wow, its been a while since I worked on this. I said I was only taking a week off but it ended up being longer. I felt like I needed to get back to this so I just spend the last hour playing around with a new scene. Its from the row boat.

Not too pleased with this one, I see several things wrong. There are a lot of jagged lines, mostly around the rope and wherever the ship meets the sky image. I must have messed with the texture for the side of the ship. It used to be a dark red/brown diffuse color and you couldn’t really see the textures but now you can see the texture 100%. Its been a while since I’ve done anything so this is more like a quick test render to see where I left off and try to remember what I had envisioned.

Today’s update:
Played around with old fashion photos

I watched a tutorial about udk asset building and the asset that was being created was a modular wooden dock. I thought I would give it a go.

I think its almost time to call this project complete. I’ve picked 5 of my favourite renders. I might try to do a birds eye/crows next view and depending on how that looks I might replace the one with the sunset.

I think I will go back and re-render some of the images because I was changing the ship in between renders. I have separate scenes for all of the images (except the sunset one) so all I really have to do is make sure the all objects have the same materials. I also want to render at 100% resolution and bump up the samples. I believe each render took around 5-8 minutes to render at 50% resolution and 300 samples.

Ended up making another scene. I like this one a lot even thought it doesnt really show much detail but I like how its different mood than the others.

There are some things i have to change:
-add sails/flags to the main ship
-try to remove objects that wont be seen (blender keeps crashing during render so im trying to minimize the poly count)
-theres a PLANE in the background photo!!! I only realized this when i did a test render
-would like to make background ships unique without adding more geometry, maybe scale, alter textures

Oh man, what a scene. You really did this right. The only only only thing I would change would be the tilt of the ship. You might consider the fore, I guess, tilting up instead of down. Just something about that angle. Just seems off. Anyway, great job. I think this will do well in finished projects.

Thanks Frobenius.Edge, I changed how the ship sits in the water. Previously it was at its default position/tilt from when I was modelling. Now it sits in the water more and looks like its being affected by the oncoming wave. I also tilted some of the ships in the background but it looks like they weren’t tilted very much. I think I should make it more drastic.

Here’s an update.

I’ve been trying to take shots of the ship from the deck but I quickly realized that the textures are too low-res and look really bad. I’ve started texturing the deck of the ship with 2k image textures instead of whatever I could get from cgtextures.

All these last renders looks awesome! My only crit would be that the fog seems a bit stuck on at the moment… If jou can get it to look more volumetric it will look stunning!

I know what you mean. That was the first thing one of my friends said when I showed him. I will try to make it look better later today using gimp.

After that, I think its time to call this done. I’ve been thinking of other things I want to make and I’ve been at this for a long time. I’ll post my favourite renders in the finished section of the forums sometime this weekend.

very good the mist look like alpha plane you should put it do<n from the camera and need characters

awesome original wasn’t my favorite but this is awesome now
