Golem?! Render"Cloud"

Hi, is anyone using this?
https://golem.network/rendering/
what do you think? is it worth a try? can blender users benefit from it?

Yes, I’ve used it to render multiple Blender files. It works well and is actually cheap. The people on the network want to support it, so many, like me, offer their compute capacity at prices that are ridiculously cheap. The easiest way to render via Golem is to use www.golemgrid.com. It allows payment with a credit card. The alternative is to go to Golem’s website, download the software, but then you’d need both GNT and Ether, which most people don’t have. golemgrid.com uses the Golem software as the backend and doesn’t take any fee.

hi, i have both of them. i have also running a golem node. but there is not much happening in the network. no tasks etc. so i asked myself if this situation will change sometime. and if any need exists in the community. If I have a bigger project that I can no longer render myself, I would use Golem. but how do you see the other? I would be interested if there are already some who use it regularly.

Ok, I see. I believe when more use cases are added, which is happening soon, the activity in the network should pick up. It is curious though that Blender users haven’t been clamoring for a super low-cost rendering solution.

I just tried to test but it seems my ISP blocks port forwarding  (Through “Carrier Grade NAT” thingy).

Also I have to admit that this promo video is top notch :100:

tried to be a requester or a contributor?

I think I couldn’t get to that point because my problem happens when connecting to nodes (I can connect to nodes but yellow circle at bottom left never turns to green and when I check ports at canyouseemee.org it displays error).

I chat someone from Golem team and he suggested me that my ISP might be using carrier grade NAT (This seems to be true because I get different IPs when I check via my router software and whatismyipaddress.com )

It looks like a minor issue but appearently most people can’t use it in Turkey because most ISP here uses that CGNAT. This might be the case for other countries as well.

Sorry to hear that your ISP is blocking portforwarding. Golem is trying actively to adopt some new technology so portforwarding won’t be necessary in the future, but that’s probably the biggest onboarding issue right now that Golem has.

Also I’m Phillip from the Golem Rocket chat that helped you, but just FYI i’m not a member of the Golem team.

Thanks for mentioning GolemGrid!

Just a thing i’d like to say is that we charge a fee for the task. Anything below 1 dollar will be rounded up to a dollar, and any task above the 1 dollar mark will have a 2,5% fee added to cover Payment gateway fees.
