This rendering was created to show new design scheme for the 11th hole at a golf course. The tee box, fairway and green have been redesigned. I used The Grove for the trees and The Grass Essentials for the grass. I normally use Maxwell Render but I thought this would be good project to sharpen my skills rendering with Cycles.
Your scaling seems off.
Not Sure if the Trees are to big or the golf buggy too small.
But apart from that it looks pretty realistic.
Everything is 1:1 scale. Trees range from 15 to 80 feet golf carts are 7’-6" tall. What is most likely throwing you off is the terrain slope. The tee box is elevated and the carts are in a valley. One of the other goals I had to achieve was to try matchg the existing trees best I could. Here is a photo of actual course with its original design. My camera in the rendering is actually about 60 feet further back and 15ft higher from where the photo was taken as well. That is why my golf carts appear just a tad smaller than the ones in the photo.
Thanks
Great Render! In my opinion needs some more post-production for realism, but anyway is GREAT! Well done!!!
This looks great! The grass and trees are very lush and thick, could you elaborate on how many particles of grass/leaves are in the scene and how you were able to render this without running out of memory? I recently tried to render a scene with several trees but the render failed because the video card ran out of memory.
Thanks for the comments…Yes I think the image is a bit saturated. I did piece this together using render layers in the compositor. I did a little color correction.
I will have to look at the specs of the scene. One thing I did to reduce memory is by linking all the trees. It keeps the file size and memory requirements lower. There are a lot of grass particles but the are instanced so that helps with memory. I did render this with cpu’s. I have 40 cores and 64 gigs of ram. I think it took about 6 hours at 2400x3600. But I really don’t remember for sure.
Here are some answers to the questions you asked.
Grass 7.4 million particles
Trees: About 20 million faces (Trunks only). The leaves are part of particle systems. So it has to be an enormous amount of polys.
I also brightened the image a bit.
This looks awesome!!
What’s the scale of your base terrain? I’ve been attempting to use Grass Essentials for a golf course and have struggled with scale … for a 300yd hole you need say a 300 x 150 m terrain. I’m still a noob, but that seems way too big to use Grass Essentials.
Did you create different objects for the tee boxes, fairway, green and cart path? Or something else? My initial thought was to create different objects and shrinkwrap them to the base terrain and have gotten OK results. Any advice would be great.
Thanks!
Hi,
Scale is 1:1 actual size. I used grass essentials for all the grass with interpolated children particles. Yes, all objects are separated. I used actual civil topology to model the base/ existing terrain, Then sculped the new topographic changes in Blender. There are more details in the comments above.
