Gone for It

Well, I could wax sentimental here, and say something like ‘my entire life has led me to this idea’ - but fear not, I’ll spare you that.
In fact, by more than anything else, this work was inspired by this song by Andrey Makarevich (here is an English translation that IMO leaves a bit to be desired, so dropping the original into Google Translate might do a better job. Still, it’s important to understand it to see what relation it has to this work).
Technically, the biggest challenge for me was to light the dark interior. Decades ago, my visual arts teacher said that there should be no such things as ‘achromatic colours,’ the term he had coined for black, white, and the shades of grey, meaning ‘colourless colours.’ He insisted these colours didn’t exist in nature and he forbade us to use them, ever. So, how do you light a dark interior in a night scene, so that it doesn’t feature vast black splotches but instead, shows at least something in most of the nooks and crannies, while still maintaining the impression of a drak room, without any ‘ghost lights?’ I know you are still going to need a not-too-glary screen with not too high contrats setting to see those ‘somethings,’ but there you go: I tried. Oh, and the TV screen shows the photograph I took myself: no copyrights copy-wronged.
P.S. I couldn’t upload a 4K PNG file, not even as a ZIP archive, and the JPEG pixelates the subtle hues: not my fault. So, below is the low-res (1920x1080) png with (hopefully) no pixelated areas.
