Gothic cartoon experiment

Tim Burton’s inspired, I used toon shaders and freestyle lines in Cycles. Feedback much appreciated.

First test for animation

And here is the part 2! I should glue the 2 videos and make a transition soon

By the way, my inspiration is of course the excellent intro from tales of the crypt

Definitely some fun stuff here … it just needs a little back-light so that the “shadows” are not quite so dark and the back side of the tombstones is not entirely black. In general, I would have the moon be slightly yellow and the moonlit surfaces likewise; with a slightly-bluish light source (even if that source is actually imaginary, created by materials) behind the camera.

It’s nice, but it’s just kind of “here” as opposed to “there”. What I mean is that it is kind of visually mundane, it’s not really “saying something”. Tim Burton style involves more elongated and twisted lines.

Maybe experiment with a copy with extruded and deformed shapes?

it is pretty cool. X3 i think that having the characters animated traditionally and overlaying them over these backgrounds would work nicely!

Thank you all for your advices, I may change the tombstones lighting + a couple of things to make it more “burton-esque”
@@BitterBrushAnim: Yes I’m thinking of integrating characters, but this is some work!
