Hi, Is it possible to group and ungroup in 2.8 ? Something like we do in Inkscape. Thanks.
group does not exit in 2.8 !
make a collection instead
Thanks. Can you tell me how to make a Collection, how it works ?
in viewport select objects then M Key and select make new collection
after just select that collection in the right panel
what do you want to do with this group? If you want some objects to move together, maybe parenting is actually the thing you’re looking for?
This addon adds that behavior:
Press Ctrl+G, stuff gets put into separate collection and on it’s place instance appears.
Pressing Tab on instances moves you into that collection so you can edit objects.
What you’re looking for is a fantastic Addon called GroupPro.
Something like that. When I was making a model of 2 letters
NO, both got stuck together. They were inseparable. I am not sure how it happened, but I realised that objects could stick together and move together in 2.8. I am not sure of the shortcut or the name of the command.
I will try it. Thanks.
Where to get it ? Thanks
you must confuse objects and meshes: in one object you can have one or several meshes, I supposed that your 2 letters NO were part of the same object. If you want to merge 2 objects to make only one (that therefore will have 2 meshes), select the 2 objects and press ctrl J (join). If you want to separate 2 meshes that are part of one object, select one of the mesh (with L) and press P. If you want 2 or more objects to follow another one, use parenting (select the object that you want to make child, then the one that you want to make parent, the ctrl P to parent. Is it what you wanted to know?
Thanks. I understood the idea of CTRL P and ALT P. It works for me.
I tried CRTL J it joins the 3 cubes I made using SHIFT D. But now I do not know how to separate them.
as I say, If you want to separate 2 meshes that are part of one object, select one of the mesh (with L) and press P.
I tried. It worked once. Do we need to click on an item and then press L ? After that immediately press P or click on " nowhere " and then press P. When we click on " nowhere " the selection on the object will be gone. When I press L without using mouse click to select one of the objects, it does not select anything at all. Thanks.
select the object that have several meshes, switch to Edit mode, put your cursor on one of the meshes and press L, il will select the whole mesh, not the other ones, then press P to separate
Thanks. The NO is now N and O. I will try on the cubes as well and update here.
Thanks for the link. After making group (with the addon Ctrl+G) how can i add modifiers such as array etc
It’s not possible to use modifiers with empties (which is what group instances technically are) so you can’t add modifiers “outside”. You need to first enter them with TAB and then you can add modifiers on objects inside collection.
