Growing increasingly frustrated...

Delta & DYeater,

Thanks for the reply.

You both warned to shy away from Booleans, is that a Blender specific warning or would you say it holds true for most 3D apps??? Booleans seem like a nice way to chisel out cavities in an object in short order. Am I just being lazy or is there a better method??? My only experience with 3D modeling is with Ray Dream 5.5. Antiquated and toy-like in comparison but I used booleans often on primitives.

Thanks for your insight!

booleans are always a bit messy, and they don’t behave well when subsurfed. if you don’t care about adding a few extra polys and you don’t need to subsurf they are fine. they will probably be improved in one of the upcoming releases, but they probably still won’t be any good for subsurfing, and i suspect that holds true with other apps as well. in any event, it’s best to learn how to accomplish some simple operations without the use of booleans. cutting a dish shaped are out of a cube using good geometry for example is not too difficult, just requires a little more time and patience.
