Hair Tool

Hello!

I am consider to buy Hair tool for now…and could you please answer on that question - In case I have my own texture ready in png file …it would not be a problem to use it with Hair tool addon?

Yes you can make , user your own textures, shaders:

In blender 2.8 there is default material applied when you create hair, but you can change it anyway u want.

Is there a way to control what material stuff generated by hair tool gets? Every time I draw or generate Ribbons, it gives them an old material that I didn’t even know was in the project file still. How do I get it to use my current hair material instead? (Using Blender 2.8 version)

@Ascalon To assing new material, select hair object -> materials tab -> And switch first materials slot to any material you want to use. To update all other material slots on object use -> Curve ribbons UV refresh -> this should also fix hair UV mapping so it matches current object green uv areas.

What a great tool. Makes working with hair (definitely one of the most painful things for me when working on game assets) fun. Thanks for that!

It seems drawing ribbons is working fine again in version 2.0.13 but I’m having issues drawing particle strands -

Make sure you are working on latest blender build:https://builder.blender.org/download/
It wont work with old ones.

According to YouTube, the comments, and my imagination, this tool is amazing and well worth the 35 bucks I spent getting it,… but it makes no sense to me. I’m obviously stupid, because everyone else in the world operates it with ease and no one thought it necessary to make a Blender 2.8 tutorial on how to use it, except one guy who’s instructions aren’t working on my computer, for some reason; even though I’m following his every instruction. I don’t even know how to ask for help, because I don’t know where to start. Can you make a YouTube video or something showing you making curly hair or something? #IncalculablyFrustrated

I was supposed to make tutorials for blender 2.8 release but I did not had enough time. But I will remake all videos from blender 2.79 to 2.8 version.
BTW.
For 2.8 release I give 30% discount for everybody with code: ‘blender_28_release’

Hi, gumroad keep saying me the code is invalid.

Yep, the the discount time is over. I forgot to write it here. Sorry for that.

Wait, after only one day?
I live in Tokyo, and the time difference don’t allowed me to see this tread in real time (I have to work too).
You should keep in mind that not everybody is on the pc 24 hours a day.
At least another 24 hours more would have been helpful.

Is there any way to prevent Hair Tool from creating mirrored materials? I can imagine what it is for but it just seems to interfere with my workflow.

yes, just go to preferences and disable - ‘Flip UV Randomly’ option.
BTw new feature incoming - making curls:

Looks interesting.

Just to drop a little feature request in: it would be nice if you could select a fallback material when you convert to mesh, instead of creating a duplicate.Further, it would be nice if you could have multiple selections and the process would batch them based on shared material settings because I can’t seem to run the operation on objects that have different materials among them without ruining UVs on some.

Sorry Gooney, I know material management sucks with Htool, but there is no better way to manage it right now. There is hope, that blender 2.81 will improve things.
I’'m not sure about your second feature? You want to update material property on multiple objects? The only way is to create group node inside material right now:

Alas.

No, I mean the convert to mesh function seems to require that only meshes of the same material are selected for it to work, if I have a group of objects that each have a different material; I can’t hit the convert button for all of them at once (or my UVs will break, it must apply one UV from one Material to all objects being converted). It’s more of a laziness factor really, being able to box select all my curves, duplicate and turn to mesh would be quicker for me than having to select each material group before converting.

@JoseConseco On the subject of materials, is there any way to make the UV area for a nurbs object copy the area in a material? Sometimes when I am converting to mesh, it will adopt a set of coordinates different from what displays on the curve patch and I can’t find a way to make it respect the settings in the material.

I have a lot of objects so I’d rather not have to go in and reset each one to the proper coordinates.
