Just a few hand studies drawn for art class at the end of last semester. Forgot to post 'em:o
Nice work! Good, clean lines, the shading on the first is nice too. On thought: Whats with the overlapping skin between the thumb and fore finger in that first one? Looks a bit unnatural…
Anyway, I like it, definitely looking forward to future work.
Thanks, though I’m not really sure what ‘overlap’ you’re talking about…
I don’t mind paintovers if you need an excuse to use your awesome tablet;)
Really good. Do I see two of them in the second render? or should I start worrying about my eyesight?
Hands can express so much, you have not only rendered them well, but they have artistic feeling, more so on the last two, the first less for reason free_ality caught and maybe the knuckles need more definition. You should shade with strokes as the masters did, yours looks like smudging was used, strokes add form definition.
Ah, youth…
Thats the webbing between the thumb and first finger, which forms folds there when the thumb is rotated down.
They look very good, blenditall. Hands are one of the hardest things to draw well.
Ah, old age
Farther up than that. Im lookn at my and right now, the folding above(to the left) of the thumb webbing seems to be missing from my hand…
I just learned something. http://www.soulsofdistortion.nl/SODA_chapter5.html see Michelangelo’s Golden Mean hidden in the hand of God.
I just learned something. see Michelangelo’s Golden Mean hidden in the hand of God.
Ahh, middle age …
You mean God’s Golden Mean hidden in the hand of Michelangelo?
The lines look great. But the shading in the first one smooths over the rough parts, bones, and edges that are in people’s hands. So it looks inflated or bloated to me, because a normal hand isn’t so smooth.
I really like the second two line drawings though. Good work; hands are the hardest! (except maybe ears… and feet)
Note:I forgot to mention: the two line drawings are my own hand.
chip4brains: Yes, you do see two. Next time I scan I’ll put an extra sheet of paper between the pages;) About the knuckles, it really did look like that. The person whose had I was sketching is slightly overweight.
Free_Ality: Well, I don’t know what your hand looks like, but this guy’s had webbing. What can I say? I drew what I saw.
PapaSmurf: Interesting…
zackaria99: See above: the hand was a bit chubby. I need to find somebody with a really skinny hand so there are knuckles to draw;) And because ears are hard, here’s an ear for ya.
sigh …Drawings always look worse scanned for some reason.
Looking good, ear has got the form strokes I posted to you for the first hand.
So you DO know about it.
Though if you curve them slightly more as if they were defining the 3D shape of where they
are drawn you would have even more form definition. If you got time, get a hold
of some Renaissance drawings references and take a look.
Someone once told me that if you hold your pencil as if you had just picked it up and
draw, the strokes would be more vivid than holding the pencil as when you write.
He was right, the improvement was immediate.
That method of holding your pencil, chalk, or whatever gives your drawing hand more freedom to draw smooth fluid flowing strokes. The improvement was immediate.
BTW forgot to mention, the ear looks good, except it is missing the ear canal hole -
kinda looks awkward without it.
Nice work on that ear! Looks very good, except for chip’s crit. Haha, I guess I just have a weird ball hand, nice work
chip4brains, thanks for the tips.
Yeah, about that ear canal… Now that you mention it it looks weird. But once again, I was just drawing what I say:confused:
not bad. hangs are heck to draw for some reason.
