handle grip

Hey does anybody know how to texture cylinderic objects because it’s really hard to do so. It always comes out so misplaced for instance, i’m making a handle for a tap which I want to have criss-crossed type grip texture on. The thing is it’s cylinder in shape and this causes the texturing to become really hard. I’m using texture painting by the way.

I usually texture my meshes in the UV panel useing a real picture or your texture. It allows you to mark a seam on the mesh so you can controll the placement of texture. (you can split the mesh in two and then move the vertices exactly where you want them, thus controlling the texture.)You have to know how to use the UV mapping though. Then in the map input panel you have to hit the little UV button. Then in the Map to panel click on the col and Nor buttons and use the sliders. This allows you great controll of the mapping and allows you to controll the amount of texture and color. Hope that helped.

Thanks for the reply. U see the controlling and mapping out isn’t a problem.

I can’t send an image at the moment but i’ll try to explain a little bit better. I’ve unwarapped the mesh (simple cylinder [smart projection plus others]) but after texture painting onto the mesh only the front area comes out nice but the left and right are distorted. I’ve done this before using cylinder…what am i doing wrong.
