This work is about my feelings on this day (Valentine’s Day).
I tried to convey the feeling of emotional swings when you’re in love.
First — how I arrived at the final concept
I saw an Instagram post with communication cables like these.
To me, they convey how we’re bound by these feelings.
I think it really shows how tangled our feelings are — how hard it is to make sense of them, and how emotion can take over reason.
Then I started building things
First I needed cables around the hand, like in the reference
I went to Houdini and made some cables with Labs Cable Generator
Next I had to script what would happen in the scene. I wrote some script
and started the hand animation in Blender.
This was my first animation attempt (blocking).
Then I started on the environment — it was hard for me to get a good composition and a coherent environment (I ended up with something a bit odd…)
After that I did lighting, texturing, cable animation, etc. (all in Blender)
When everything was ready, I rendered to EXR and went to After Effects for compositing
