hard drive bad SMART status..clone tool needed

one of my old PIII 733 win2k box has a bad hard drive (old 20 gb). Is there a way to clone the disk to another 40 gb drive I have (like with acronis) but for free, and without having to redo the boot sector etc? I have another pc I can use with linux and win98 on it that I can plug drives into.

In Linux you can use the coolest tool called dd :)) But you will not be able to use the additional 20GB.

Easier way is parted http://www.gnu.org/software/parted/
and it’s gui version GParted http://gparted.sourceforge.net/.

I haven’t used the gui version, but parted supports both copying and resizing of partitions.

thanks.
