I love looking at the completed artworks but I have to fight my way through the increasing numbers of ads! I will stay subscribed in case I have jobs to advertise but I will have to just keep dismissing all the new topics for now . .
You mean the Jobs ? You can mute that category so you don’t see anything from it:
Read what I wrote again . .
The BA staff does not have any control over how the ads are delivered. To even switch ad providers is a crapshoot because the whole market is just Google and one or two small players.
There are no good decisions to be made here, it is either this or the staff beginning to turn off features and/or imposing upload limits for those who do not have a subscription.
If you become a site supporter, you’ll see far fewer ads… almost none, for that matter.
Wait, what? I can mute ENTIRE SECTIONS?!
TIL.
So long, jobs and games…
Oh right!?
Cool, Im off to mute loads!
It’s like a Christmas miracle.
Or a Tuesday miracle, if you don’t celebrate Christmas.
Or a Wednesday miracle, if you’re 6 hours ahead of me.
Ill take the middle option sir!

FAQ: How do you pay the bills?
It’s actually 88,50 EUR per month… and now compare to server costs and also discourse service… not speaking of the time of “the staff”… (and they aren’t employed…)
(BA also just updated the space to another 1GB).
So yes they make some money by adding “the default advertising” which is done by some big advertising company and based on your browser history…
And you propery/mostly have an account for your mobile at the same company… so now they even know where you are and using what app and making money with your data. Or even for their other services (auto login etc).
Think about that… ![]()
My biggest gripe about the adverts is that they pop up at the bottom as well, meaning, when you’re replying to a thread, you’re forever shifting the damned things to actually post the message. Frustrating A.F. but alas, between the constant adverts / video / popups and cookie windows, it’s something you either have to grit your teeth and deal with, or don’t use the site.
TBH, there’s several sites I have ceased to visit for that very reason. By the time you’ve done all the clicking etc, you’ve given up on bothering looking for the information you want.
Thankfully BA isn’t that bad, at present.
As previously stated, for less money per month than a fancy ‘foo-foo’ coffee, most all ads are removed.
This is a community and I don’t mind chipping in a little to support the community. Heck, just getting answers recently to 2 geo-nodes questions I had was well worth the monthly cost to me!

too lazy to look it up… What in the hell is a foo foo coffee??
I lately found the urban dictionary… and as a non-native-english-speaker this is a goldmine … ![]()
Think of a coffee with extra whipped cream, caramel drizzles, chocolate shavings, and throw in a fancy little umbrella on top.
@Okidoki explanation fits too…
Randy
In fact i already understood this as an exaggeration of fancy : fancy fancy fancy → fancy foo foo
Like maybe beauty beauty beauty → beauty blink blink… (???)
…
or maybe that’s only my imagination ![]()
Yup… I wouldn’t mind the ads if they keep the website functional…
But those in the bottom, often block the Reply button, and often, they pop up right when I’m hitting it, forwarding me to another page. And sometimes, when the css isn’t yet loaded, they simply appear randomly anywhere in the screen.
Other than that, I’ve no complaints.
When you’re spending 90 a month keeping a site alive, mostly from Bart’s pocket, you have to make some compromises to keep the site afloat
I understand, @joseph, and I’ve never complaint about the ads in general. And I wouldn’t mind to have those ads in the bottom also, if (and this is my only point), the ads wouldn’t block the usage of the website.
(for example, adding a margin in the bottom for the ads, and keep the reply button above-vertically the ads… Not under them.)
