Having Vertices Issue for a while now, need help

I’m having an issuing with my vertices, no matter how well I follow a tutorial this is always happening and it ruins my models.

When I grab one of my vertices and move it down or up there’s a second or even up to 4 vertices in the same spot. I don’t know why my vertices keep doubling and I can’t find help with this anywhere.
I’ll include a picture below of what it looks like.

This issue is very frustrating for me and I have no idea why this happens.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

You can get rid of your duplicates by selecting all, pressing M, and choosing By Distance

Most commonly it happens when you extrude and cancel it.

I didn’t know canceling extrude did that, now I know. Thanks

Thanks this will be useful if I accidentally make more duplicates.
