Head Modeling Tut

In this 15 min video I show in real time (no time-lapse) how to model the human head with good topology. This tut is for intermediate blender users. Knowledge of how to do simple things like Extrude Loop-cut Rotate Scale Grab ect are assumed.
You can buy the photo references and .blend files at the product page on my website. http://blenderprotein.blogspot.com/p/products.html
The photo references were taken by me and are pre alined in photoshop.

Ok, here’s what so strange about this idea. Yeah, it’s good to have another video about topology and the like. The only problem is that not a lot of people are actually going to buy something where they can actually create themselves or get some references for free on the internet.

nice to see a different approach for modeling a head. it was long ago that i saw the two rectangle method, it’s not very popular currently. very clean and fast way to model a head. but your base mesh is missing ears and detailed geometry around the eyes! who should buy a simple base mesh, when main parts are missing?

I guess maybe I should offer the base mesh after it is finished. Which I am making a tutorial for finishing off the mesh, and then will make one on texturing. As for the photo references I don’t know of any place that offers well taken photo references pre alined in photo shop for free. Also the photo references come with a pre made texture map, and a reference poster showing all the mane steps used in the tutorial.

Nice workflow. Good work. Here is test head I made using your method:

I am working on texturing mine. When I am finished I will make a tut. Here is a render.

Very good tutorial i like it a lot, i followed it using references photos from there :

And your tutorial method gave really good results in term of topology in both my 2.59 and 2.49 attempts:

Thanks for sharing, the result is much more organised than the “let’s try to make quads only and make it look pretty” self “method” i was using that had me struggling often with some area, while with the method described in the tutorial, it’s “flowing” nearly naturally when building the model.
