Help creating a lawn

Hmm. I’m sure I posted this already, but I can’t see it so lets give it another go. So please accept my apologies if a duplicate thread appears at some point.

Hi all.

I’m looking for some tips and advice for creating a lawn in an architectural model.

I’ve seen a few grass tutorials that use the particle hair effect, but that seems to be better suited for large meadows of wild grass where the grass is the focal point, and strikes me as being a bit too resource heavy for a simple, short cut lawn (plus the ‘hair’ seems to do weird stuff if you make it too short). However the only alternative I know is to use a texture, but that always looks like a lifeless ‘green carpet’.

So can anybody offer any suggestions for creating a resource friendly method of creating good looking grass/lawn?

I’m pretty new to Blender (only started using it this weekend in-fact) so please bear with me if this seems a daft question, but any suggestions would be most helpful.

Thanks in advance.
