Help: cylinder sides come up black rather than textured (the rest of the mesh is fine and textures correctly):

The normals are pointing out so what is the problem, how do I get it to accept the texture?

Try to use Ctrl-A keys?!

Ctrl-A keys? That does NOT HELP AT ALL. Tell me what the bug is and what will fix it.
WHY are the surfaces black WHY??

“apply scale and rotation” does not make this accept a texture…

Select the “bad” faces, press W key and choose “flip normals” in the popup menu?!

Try this: Check the Editing panels (F9), Mesh tab. If there is a Vertex Color layer present, click the X to remove it.
