Help, I can't find my bones!

Somehow, my bones have gone missing. Not all of them, just one of the large armature setups.

They are not hidden, Alt+H does not return them.

My animation is still fine, all the keyframes are working properly.

I can select 1 of the bones by selecting the mesh it is attached to, and using Shift + G to find Parent, but that selects only the single bone. If I try and go into Pose mode once the bone is selected, it disappears again, and I’m left with nothing selected. If I go back to edit mode, the bone is still selected.

I can still see the small dotted lines that go from the mesh to the bone, but the bone is invisible.

I’m guessing that I’ve clicked or pressed something and changed a setting somehow and one of my bone groups has disappeared.

Help please.

Thanks in advance,
Rabbit

you must have assigned them to a ‘bone layer’ by mistake.

I don’t think so, unless there’s actually a “bone layer” that I don’t know about.

Pressing ~ to show all layers doesn’t reveal them, and I’ve scrolled through all 20 layers… they aren’t hiding there.

Is there anywhere I could upload my .blend so that someone smarter than me could take a look at it? File is currently 1.5M.

New Bot.blend (1.37 MB)
Apparently I can attach them here. Above is the .blend file in question. I have it saved so that the bones are selected when you open the file, but as you can see, if you change modes, or select anything else, the bones disappear. The only way to select them again is to select a mesh part (like a leg), press Shift + G to find the parent, and then enter edit mode.

If someone could figure out how to make my bones pose-able and visible again I would greatly appreciate it (also please tell me how I got them into this state so that I avoid it in the future.)

TIA

bone layers are different from ordinary layers. i cannot recall how to access them in 2.5, but I do recall having done so, so they definately exist.

In the Bone Properties, all the bones are set to Hide. So to change it back, select a bone in edit mode, then go to pose mode, and uncheck Hide. Repeat for every bone

Thank you so much Sago! That was exactly it!
