Help me transition to Blender 2.8

Hi, i do a small project with the latest 2.8 build to get used but i’m really really annoyed by a few features, so maybe i’m lost, so maybe you could point me the right way:

  • How to hide the wireframe of the back faces in edit mode? Like in Blender 2.7

  • How to go to Local mode?

  • How to Deselect an Select with A

  • How to Render to a NEW WINDOW

Thanks

Further issues:

  • Why is this happening? : Edit some stuffs in edit mode -> Go to Object Mode -> Transform the object (eg scale it) -> Ctrl+ z to undo the transform but that makes me enter in Edit mode and Undo Edit mode

In Shading popover, X-ray should be off.
For a view mode different from Wireframe mode, in Overlays popover, under Shading label, Hidden Wire option should be on. The option is only visible when mesh is in edit mode.

You can’t. It was not restored. In case, H, Shift H and Alt H are not satisfying shortcuts, you are encouraged to create collections and manage their visibility.

A to select all. Double A or Alt A to deselect All.

Like in 2.79, by choosing display mode.
The mode list have migrated from Properties Editor to Render menu in upline of Topbar.

If local you mean Local vs Global,

Still can’t figureout how to hide the wires of back faces, modeling with so much noise is really difficult. Activating hidden Wire only turn the mesh in pure wire frame , i want the mesh in solid shading with wire frames

X-ray has to be turned off.
Press Z to have pie-menu to disable X-ray.

If you want Solid+Wire, don’t use Hidden Wire.
Inside Overlays popover, under Geometry , enable Wireframe. It is visible on your screencapture.

Thanks, that works but only in object Mode, in edit mode I get the same result, Further test show that in a new Blender file it works

Then something in your Blender file is compromised and not working properly. Copy all of your stuff into a new file and try again.

Hidden Wire is only working in edit mode and it is disabled by default.
I told you to enable it, before knowing that what you want is Solid+Wire.
And it looks like you forgot to disable Hidden Wire and save the file.

Man i hope devs will make local mode working soon

Tried in a brand new file, it worked perfectly for about 1 hour, then i started seening the backfaces wire, again

Well looks like a bug because the solid + wire works for a few hours in my brand new bender files, then stop working , and only works when i orbit the view , see the gif-> 2018-11-13_15-56-37

The expected behavior only happens while i’m orbiting or when i make a new Blender File

(Local mode) work if you press ctrl +the eye icon in outliner.

Thanks, it is a lot slower but it works

Ctrl+eye icon hides everything else, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to get out of that, short of clicking all the eye icons again.

I’m starting to have serious doubts about this. Been using 2.8 for a few weeks and assuming things were just “not working yet”, but it seems that a number of pretty important features have been dropped and aren’t coming back because they aren’t compatible with the new codebase. This is getting quite worrying.

Yes , the fast workflow i used to love is not there anymore :frowning:

You can press A select everything in outliner then alt+h for now.

One thing people fail to realise is that this unhides everything. With Local view, previously hidden things remained hidden after you exited Local View!

You can create nested collections.
If you only manage things from outliner ; in theory, you have more levels.
2.8 provides more granularity.

But , in practice, a quick and easy way to manage that from 3DView is absent.
Ctrl H menu does not handle nested collections.

What is weird is that M menu to move objects to a collection handle nested collections as submenus.
That would be perfect for Ctrl H menu.

My feelings exactly, @jaxtraw . Blender 2.8 seems to have deprioritized experienced Blender users in favour of attractiveness to new users. There’s just too much radical change for a 0.01 version increment. Lots of functions are now scattered across more tabs than ever. I can’t even find the simplest things anymore, I miss the old layers, and I keep running into default shortcuts that have changed. For example, about half of the Sculpt Mode shortcuts have changed. Also, about half of the display and overlay options are not needed for me, and have added clutter. And at the time I write this, you can’t even press Control + 1, 2 or 3 to add a subdiv modifier in Edit Mode.

In its current state Blender 2.8 is pushing me towards using ZBrush and Keyshot more than before. I think that’s a pity, because I really love Blender and I’ve supported 2.8 development.

I needed to get this off my chest, but I’m willing to spend more time with 2.8 before really deciding what to think of it all.

Don’t panic, things will even out. Local Mode WILL come back, there is no doubt about it. I’ve heard/read at least 3 devs commenting on that. Shortcuts can be changed, Addons will make things easier, etc…
The transition phase will be difficult. After 2.8 is out, things will get better.
