Help on wrapping an imported image around a transparent sphere

I am trying to wrap an image of paper currency around a sphere with a transparent background to place over another sphere I have designed.
Would really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction as I am new to blender (and hooked).
Have watched countless videos but can’t get it to happen.
Hope this makes sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If that is one banknote you want to map on a sphere it is better start off from plane you map image to and then subdivide in order to have geometry to deform. Tool to deform plane is Warp (use Space bar search to find it) and it is used twice to warp subdivided plane: first time Front Ortho view, angle 180d and second time Left Ortho, 360d.
Two things to set up before: plane is best to have proportions 2:1 and 3d cursor should be placed center, approximately 2 bu below the plane on the center line.
Do not forget to remove doubles.
