Hello, I am trying to attach weights to my character, but when I have two weight paints overlap with one another they get removed.

What causes this is probably Auto-Normalizing (checkbox in Active Tool settings > Options).
Normalizing makes it so the sum of a given vertex weights is equal to β1β. So when you paint solid β1β in one group, others automatically become β0β (unless a group is locked).

Before turning auto normalize off I would first read about what it does. Its not a real βsolutionβ.
You are just setting yourself up for confusion later down the line when you find out that the colors that should represent weight have become meaningless now.
