Help with blender shortcut. B key selection circle

I installed blender 2.49b on my laptop recently and I noticed something. When ever I double tap the b key, the selection circle does not appear. I thought this was odd but the strangest part is it still selects vertexes and can be adjusted with the mouse wheel but for some reason i can not see it. What option is there to make the selection box or circle visible? I uninstalled and reinstalled and still nothing.

If you have a laptop, you probably have an intel graphics card (usually onboard your motherboard). There are many visual glitches with these. You can try updating your graphics drivers from your vendor but you may just have to live with it. Blender 2.5 seems to work better.
