Help with setting up a material for my creature's skin

I answered someone’s question concerning mixing colors in another thread yesterday. Maybe the examples I made in that post can help you:

Basically with the emission socket, it needs to
be black where it shouldn’t glow, and a color where it should. The brighter the color is, the more it will glow. You use the texture as a mask for the mixRGB node, and place whatever glowing texture you want for the second color. If done correctly the output of that mixRGB node should be something where you see black where it doesn’t glow, and the texture where it does glow.
