Help with skin texture

Hi all,

So I’ve been working through this guys tutorials

Even though I am new to blender I’ve found them to be very helpful and have been learning a lot. Anyway at this point he is using bprojection and it seems that the current version is different enough that I can’t use the same tech. Also it seems people are saying that Texture paint is the way to go. I’ve been looking for some good tutorials on how to use texture paint and map from an image but haven’t been able to find any yet

Just curious if people had suggestions for doing skin on a model and your favorite methods or your favorite tutorials.
Like the old lady in the gallery above, how do you think that skin was done?

Thanks! This guy is waiting for some skin…

There are many ways to make textures (not just skin textures). Baking helper maps, vertex colors, painting over them in Blender or 2D painting program…

After an awesome paint system update, you can use stencil mapping instead of BProjection. Just placing the stencil ‘on top’ of the model and painting over it will transfer colors from stencil to your texture.

But you don’t have to stop on painting inside Blender. Check out these videos by Ben Simonds to see how you can utilize Blender’s baking facilities together with a 2D painting software to paint textures.

Cool, thanks for the reply! I have to figure out baking a little bit more, I’m not doing something right…

This piece http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=1060628&utm_source=cgsociety&utm_medium=cgchoice&utm_term=1060628 has a great display of skin textures half way down. Now I don’t expect to be doing anything like this right off the bat but is definitely something to shoot for. I’m curious what his method is.

Well I guess he’s using zbrush and other things but still…
