Help with UV Mapping tutorial

Hi,

I’m following this tutorial - http://biorust.com/index.php?page=tutorial_detail&tutid=85 - and got up to Step 3. First of all the image is unclear so I don’t know from where to where I need to seam. Then for Step 4 I have no clue what it tell me to do. Can someone help? Thanks.

You make seams in edit mode… not in UV face select mode. Hit TAB then select your seams and hit ALT-E select make seam… that’s it.

I didn’t know what seems I had to edit so I looked at the comments and it told me what to mark as a seam.

I could not figure out where the seems went. The are set almost all the way around the face of the H. On front and on the back. Viewing the thing as a letter “H” standing up. Start at the top left of the “H”. Moving right seem around all the way to the bottom left. Basically leaving the left side of the “H” unseemed. Now do the same on the back side of the “H”. Then make on more seem that attaches the front seem to the back. Place this on the right side middle of the “H”.

Once I did this I went and did the UV -> LSCM Unwrap and it made something different from what should have turned out. What did I do wrong?

You just want them to unwrap so that they lay out in a useful manner.

In the case of square objects the archimap UV projection unwrapper script in the UV’s menu does a really nice job all by itself.

Your seams are a little different. Here is a blend file with the seams marked

I’m not that much of a Blender pro yet.

GreyBeard,

Thanks for your .Blend file, I also downloaded your UV mapping movie and it was excellent. I just have trouble figuring out, as DeathGuppie says, where to put the seams so it lays out in a usefull manner.
