How do Graphics Cards Work? Exploring GPU Architecture

Graphics Cards can run some of the most incredible video games, but how many calculations do they perform every single second? Well, some of the most advanced graphics perform 36 Trillion calculations or more every single second. But how can a single device manage these tens of trillions of calculations? In this video, we explore the architecture inside the 3090 graphics card and the GA102 GPU chip architecture.

We spent 3 months researching this topic and then another 2 months animating the entire script by 4 animators. The entire episode is done using Blender.

We used tons of cool geometry node assets, but I like this holographic mountain best as a huge visual data medium:

Here is the node setup if someone is interested:

Finally, I hope you noticed that we have an insanely detailed 3D model of the video card that we spent weeks modeling before the project itself.

Enjoy watching the video and hope you learn something new from it.

Oh, it’s you guys! I watched your video on how CGI works, I learned all about raytracing on that video, proper detail.

If you had one trick in your book for starting and finishing a blender project on educational videos, what would it be?

Use a single camera with track object, throughout the entire 30-minute video so that all transitions are smooth and consistent.

Thanks man

I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!

You’re on the featured row! :+1:

That’s a lot of nvidia ad for 30 minutes.

Am I the only one that doesn’t think CP77 looks “realistic”? All that wax like skin on people and shiny concrete made looking like polished marble? Reflections all smudgy and pixelated?

My rant aside, animation in the video is perfect.

I’ve seen it from start to finish! Thank you very much for your work! I’ve also take the chance to see other videos from you and enjoyed very much the explanations! They were super easy to follow. There’s a bunch of things I never fully understood and now everything is way more clear!
