How do I Add an Object to an existing Joined Group?

Hi, I joined a bunch of objects (CTRL + J)

But now I want to “add” another object to this group. I read you select the object you want to add to the joined group then press the “Shift” key and select the group you want to add it back to then press the (P Key).

But it didn’t seem to work. Can someone please tell me how to do this. Thanks.

same thing just join it
select ob then shift select the big ob and Ctrl-J

The objects must be of the same type as well. For instance, you can not join a lamp and a curve.

You can, however, create a group of mixed type objects.
