How do I allow the light to pass through the glass material

Hello! So I am new to blender and I ve built this airport waiting room set and am facing an issue, I want the outside light to pass through the glass pane, am not able to figure out how, Have already tried increasing the light intensity and changing the glass material quite a no. of times. Attaching the screenshot for the same.

Hey @Avani,

Have you tried using a Transparency shader for the glass? . . .

Dj.

No I haven’t! I ll try and let you know! Thank you very much!

This is the correct node setup for transparent architectural glass. Using only the transparent shader eliminates the reflections of the glasses. You may want to avoid that.

Okay, firstly thank you very much! so I tried using the transparent shader like said and it did give me some results in eeve but not in cycles, I m aiming to get the god rays effect, n so far it looks like this -

I have the caustics on, should I switch it off? will it make e a difference?

If you want god rays, you need to add volumetrics

Cycles is not so good to handle volumetrics as Eevee, so you need a substantial amount of samples. In order to have god rays you should have some direct sunlight or something that simulates those light rays, otherwise, all you will have is fog.

I forgot to say some things more. With such big windows it can be difficult to see the god rays. The sun light must be pretty intense in order to see the effect. I know it will may sound strange, but you need to set your volumetric light bounces to 0, otherwise, the light will bounce everywhere inside the volume and all you will see again is fog. You also would remove the ambient light to avoid the fog effect. But the best you can do is to make 2 renders, one with your normal lights and the other only with the volumetric and then mix them in the compositor.

People use to use Eevee to render the volumetric and then composite with the cycles render.

You could do a render like this one to use in the compositor. This one was made without environment light and with diffuse, glossy, and volumetric bounces on 0.

The god rays are always more visible in darker ambient as well. If your scene is well lit it will probably disappear under the lights.

Have already done that

Having some trees outside can help the god rays look less flat and more interesting.

for outside window
there is the portal window feature - at least for cycles

light don’t go in glass only Transp glass or some custom node with transp

but not certain if it will let all external light to enter the window
