How do I make a coiled tension belt ?

I want to create a model that is placeable for a game called Farming Simulator 17 the game has tension belts or ratchet straps for attaching the load to a trailer or truckbed, but I added none functional storage and would like to create the look of stored belts, most of the wrapping techniques seems to be for bandages or belts, not for item that is coiled up.

If it’s just for show (doesn’t actually need to unwrap), I’d kind of fake it with a modified cylinder and let texturing do the work except for a loose end. For the end of a coil that sticks out I’d make a path with some amount of extrude setting, and then convert it to mesh. Then use snapping to get it flush to the cylinder, and join to make them part of the same mesh object.
