How do I mirror along the cursor? It keeps mirroring where the orange dot is

In maya, I can simply move the cursor around and snap to grid, but I have no idea how to do this in blender.

How do I mirror my object so that it is mirrored where I put my cursor? It’s mirroring where the orange dot is. If not possible, how do I move the orange dot to where my cursor is so that the mirroring would actaully work?

Hey, try setting the origin (that orange dot) to 3D cursor. And then mirroring.
Do this by right clicking, hover over “set origin” and select 3D cursor.

Two ways ( maybe more but it’s early)

Go up top and change

Or…Go up top and move the origin to 3d cursor

another way is to add an EMPTY and use the empty as the Mirror Object…You can move the empty wherever you want.

I am no big fan of the 3dcursor. But you can also edit the object origin directly in object mode. And with Ctrl you can quickly snap it.
Just dont forget to deactivate “edit origin” at the end.
I used symmetrize here, but its the same for mirror or whatever.

@bluberry generally, don’t do that. Origins are important, moving them might mess up something seemingly unrelated on your model. This is because interactive symmetry, object transforms, animation, constraints, shapekeys, etc depend on it. I suggest you change the scene pivot point to “3d cursor” instead, then the mirror operator will obey this parameter.
