How Do I parent clothing to armature? Also do I add a cloth modifier?

I new here I finally was able to get my character to animate using vertex groups and parenting to empty groups. Now I want to add a lab coat I designed for the character. How Do I go about parenting and what else do I need to do like cloth modifier?

There’s an option in the cloth settings called pinning that allows you to have some of the object act as cloth and some … not, based on a vertex group…

You can have the coat be just fixed to the armature above… around the bottom of the ribcage, and act as cloth below that.
