Hi there. I think my post heading says it all. Ive been struggling to draw a simple L Shaped line in blender. It always converts it to a curved bezier curve. Working with lines should be the most simpe of tasks where you just click and place points and the software connects the the two points. Why is it such a hassle to create simple lines in blender. 3ds max handles lines and splines so much better , it’s almost exactly like drawing a path in a vector program. Why cant blender just do the same thing. I’m really just frustrated at some of the things that blender tries to reinvent. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Kulu,
To create lines you can extrude ( keyboard short cut ‘e’ ) any vertex in edit mode. You could start with a plane, delete the top right hand vertex and you’ll be left with a 3 vertex, two edged shape. If you then want this to be extended, extrude as you wish. To convert this to a ‘curve’ use the object menu and select the Curve from Mesh:
Thanks DamianJ . I will try you suggestions. But ive realized I was using nurbsplines , I think thats wht ir kept making my lines into curves. Im sorry for my rant.
When using bezier curves, to make a sharp corner: select a control point, press “V” to bring up the handle type menu, and select “vector.” This will give a sharp corner, but when adding a bevel it may cause a little distortion. This is a known aspect of curves in Blender (to both artists and developers) and so may improve in the future.
I completely agree, I cannot understand why tis would be such hard task. Just to draw a simple nurbscurve… It should be possible to draw a freely shaped nurbscurve from manually positioned control points. Things like these are basic stuff in most software, for example like in rhino, its super easy to draw curves, extrusions, trims, booleans whatever. I thinks their is a lot of work to be done in terms of UI and UX in Blender tbh.
