How do I uv map around a cylinder without distorting texture.

This isn’t a functionality problem as much as a technique problem. I’m in the process of uv mapping on a grain silo. I have a brick wall texture but when I attempt to wrap it around the cylinder it distorts and cuts up the texture. Could I get some advice on how to do this?

Ensure you have applied any scale of the object before unwrapping (Ctrl+A)
Mark selected seams (Ctrl+E)

Unwrap
Then edit unwrap to adjust island positions

If you have more than a simple cylinder then apply the seams where appropriate. We know nothing about your object since you have failed to supply any blend file for review

Ensure also the the origin of the object is centered relative to the circles. Cylinder mapping needs the origin point to map the UVs.
