How do you set exact size of objects?

Hello,

I’m using blender 2.54 right now and I don’t know how to set the exact size of objects. I saw a thread which said that I should press the N-key to bring out a menu that lets me set the object’s size by entering numbers manually, but all it does is bring out a transform sub menu which doesn’t have an option to set the sizes manually.

In object mode you can type in the X, Y, and Z object dimensions, as well as rotation and scale values etc.

Sorry for the nooby question, but is there any specific button that I have to press in order to enter the object’s X,Y,Z dimensions? I’m using metric as a unit inside of blender and I can adjust the object’s length and height by mouse, but it’s extremely hard and time consuming to get the sizes that I want.

I used scale, but that doesn’t work. it only scales the object’s size from its original size. I’m sure that there is an easy magical button which I should press to solve all my problems, but I don’t know which one!

I don’t know if i’m understanding this right but you can scale along axis’s too, so you can press “s” then x,y,z and if you want specific measurements you can press a number afterwards. So if you have a plane, select it, press “s” and hit 5, and it will be scaled 5 times it’s original size. Same with making it smaller just hit, something like 0.5

Hello, HCTA. Thank you for your reply.

I am trying to recreate the exact measurements of a building by using Blender, so I selected the metric system at the start.

The cube’s initial dimensions are 1mx1m, so when using the scale command and typing .5 .5 .5 I can change the cube’s dimensions to 50cmx50cm, but if I want the cube’s dimension to be exactly 1.1 cm x 120cm it’s not always clear to me what I should scale the cube too. That’s why I was looking for a way to enter the dimensions in cm directly instead of scaling objects.

here ya go

Thanks, wysiwyg!

That’s exactly what I was looking for

no problem, and welcome to Blenderartists

This thread is useless now, as the image the possibly held the solution to the question is no longer available

For any one that stumbles upon this years later. Hit the “N” key to pop open your transform panel. It has dimensions at the bottom so you can set specific sizes. If the units are not what you expected you may need to change your length units in your scene settings.

In order for the dimensions to appear, you need to hit the “item” tab after hitting “N” to open the transform panel

Yes i got the same issues, i download blender few years ago and never used it again, i want to used blender again but still no exact metrices system. i’ll use blender when it have that feature. i may like drawing by hand but in computer i like more exact things.
