This is my very first human head. Before this, all I knew was to create good topology and have edge loops around nose and eyes and mouth. But I don’t know how many loops I need. Also, some parts are getting hard to create, like creating the head more round, and the cheeks more smooth.
Any guide and critique will be hugely appreciated.
look into sculpting, polymodelling is very very out dated. noone does it anymore. its all sculpt+retopo. if u want a proper program, get zbrush Core, its 200 bucks but you also get to use the tools that are being used in the industry.
if not u can do it with blender. but sculpting is the way either way.
I would start looking up “blender sculpting tutorial” on YouTube. There’s a lot of great vids there that show the basics people take to start sculpting. Once you understand the basics and starting tools, it’s a matter of practice, practice, practice. At that point even watching timelapses will help you improve when you see what experienced people do with their sculpts.
I’m in the same boat as you, I’m new to sculpting but what I’ve gathered is that
Your best friends are the Clay Strips, Smooth, Crease, and Snake Hook tools.
Start with a proper base mesh before sculpting.
Holding shift while sculpting automatically brings out the smooth tool.
Holding Ctrl while sculpting inverts the tool.
When starting the sculpt, Clay Strips, Smooth, repeat. Clay Strips, Smooth, repeat.
Enable Dynotopo!
After a lot of practice you’ll start to understand the rules of the sculpting universe and slowly but surely get better at sculpting until you’re one of the greats!
