bumpety bump

You are easier to model than this this tree stump!

Agreed, but it sure looks like a fun assignment.

thats not me in the photos

I’d think it would largely depend on the amount of detail you want. Someone could spend 1 hour making a rough blocking of this or months making an accurate digital double worthy of close scientific analysis. It’d probably also help to know what the model will be used for (ie a discovery channel type visualization, video game, what have you).

OF is correct - low poly vs high poly. Your require what please thanks!

enough poly’s that are worthy of a simple animation of the camera going around it

thats not enough information to accurately quote on this. you need to be much more specific.

  • tv? if so, standard def or HD?
  • how long is the ‘simple anmation’? 5 frames? 500 frames?
  • what level of finish? we talking papervision flash 3d, playstation1 3d, music video 3d, or fight club level photoreal 3d?
  • modelled down to bark texture, ie a full displaced/sculpted model, or would a texture suffice for the fine detail?
  • does poly count/topology matter? you could model this from a 3 million poly sphere if its only going to be static and used for limited shots, but if it needs to be modelled efficiently, say so.
  • if web, give dimensions of the final output. going to a 320x240 youtube compressed clip, or HD on vimeo, or 100x800 flash banner ad?
  • accuracy? will it have to intercut with photos/footage of the real trunk?

the more info you provide, the better people can quote on it.

600x400,
basic shape and texture so that you know its the same tree trunk in the photos,
300 frames,
simple camera 360 (slow) animation that will go on a website,

modelled down to bark texture, ie a full displaced/sculpted model, or would a texture suffice for the fine detail?

texture would be enough with a bump map.

so… enough info?

…bump…

no more quoting, i’ve already finished modeling it myself.
