I recently made an short animation how pin tumbler lock works, so here it is.
It’s made in Blender 2.6, rendered in Cycles and edited in Vegas.

This is beautifully done! Sharp materials, great lighting, and clean design. There should be more “How [X] Works” animations on this forum.
Were the pins key framed or did you use some physics simulations? I assume it’s the former.

Pins were key framed, it was kinda annoying, but I think it was the most precise way how to animate them.
I’ll try to make more “How something works” animations, if you have some particular idea on your mind, please share
