How should I model this window?

How should I model the part of this cathedral window that I have circled in red here?

I’ve already made the lower part, but I need to create what I’ve highlighted.

One technique I’d consider would be to break it down and then copy, rotate and paste…

As an example, start with a circle with 36 vertices , split the circle into 12 segments, delete 11 of them.
Build the yellow piece with a mirror modifier which will give the yellow and orange piece, apply the modifier and then copy the whole and rotate 60 degrees making sure the pivot is set to cursor and the cursor is centered. Repeat until you have the finished circle and complete piece.
Then select all and remove doubles/ merge vertices to make one whole object.

Thank you!

As a side note - rather than duplicate and rotate, the same effect can be achieved via an array modifier to keep the whole thing tweakable with a single slice of the resulting mesh.

How do I rotate an array in a circle?

via the “object offset” setting in the array modifier. Object can then be an Empty at the center, rotated by the necc degrees.

I’d like to have more details on how to do this.

Nice technique, very useful thanks.

To get same result as my previous example, create circle as before, add mirror and array modifier and rotate empty by 60 degrees.
