How to achieve this look?

I was curious on how to achieve this look on the ropes I made in Blender. I tried sculpting, noise and bump maps but I can`t get it to work. I increased the subdivision on the cylinder and then used sculpting but I still cant achieve this look.

Awesome thanks that worked, do you happen to know why this works on a NurbsPath and not a regular cylinder? I was using a cylinder this whole time and couldn’t achieve this effect.
