and here’s what i made…
You could try using the Volume Absorption node to tint the material through its thickness.
If you still have black areas, try increasing Render Properties / Light Paths / Max Bounces : Glossy, Transmission and/or Volume.
Welcome …
…it seems you angles of the “steps” are 90 degree ?? The ref seems a bit less “sharp”… so the fresnel does this… here on the left is some 90 degree angle and on the right a bit more…
In the render settings, set the maximum glossy bounces to something really high, like 32. Also set the total bounces to the same number, or it will constrain the glossy.
When making a glass material, it’s important to have lots of glossy bounces, because the light tends to reflect repeatedly inside the object. If the bounces aren’t high enough, you will loose light rays that would have eventually become visible.
I’d recommend gradually increasing these values until you don’t see any areas that are too dark, rather than going all the way to 32, especially for an object like this.
thats an interesting question… I think in other renderers what I would do is disable self-shadowing, it’s more evident when these shapes have thickness, but couldn’t find an easy way for cycles, I assume there’s no simple switch on and off right? disabling shadows might do the trick but then you won’t have casting shadows around… maybe if rendered in passes
I once saw someone say one of the other popular render engines switches over to a transparent shader after a certain number of glass bounces.
Hello,
Another possibility, if you used the “Solidify” modifier for your walls, check the internal faces, you may have overlapping faces :
Mates, thank you for the answer! I did what you guys told me & achieved what I need! Solidify is messed my topo. so i need to make it from scratch… also that light path things!
as a self-taught myself, it means a lot to receive your help. thank you so much! glad I register here & don’t give up earlier
