Though I’m probably gonna use marvelous designer for cloth animation, I want to know how to generally animate hands holding cloth as cloth is simulated and hands are animated, but I see 3d animations where say a character pulls a sheet or puts a hand in a pocket, so if anyone could tell me how it’s done that would be great. Also, if anyone knows how Alberto Mielgo’s team achieved the girl holding the bag in the witness while using Marvelous Designer that would also be great.
Hello? Does anybody know how to do hands interacting with cloth sims or how to set it up?
Please yall I need to know how to animate hands interacting with cloth sims
You can model it in Marvelous if you want, but you can do the same in blender…
Once modeled you need a vertex pin group, the center of the strap. The bag has a cloth sim with self collisions… a good video of simulating cloth …
The arm and hand have a collision sim…and just animated to feel around.
The pin group keeps the bag in place and the arm moves the cloth …

So I set up a vertex pin group on the fingers and hands on the frames I want it to interact with the cloth and then unpin when I don’t want it? and I’m sorry I wasn’t being clear enough, I meant how to do that in Marvelous Designer because according to Alberto Mielgo, the characters were animated naked with MD cloth sims on top and I didn’t know if I could animate cloth interactions like the bag in the short because I know the bag was simulated in MD, it has the look, so with vertex pin group method, would it be the same in MD?
Ye Marvelous has its own Pins and Pin Lines ( Like on a sleeve so it doesn’t detach and flap around)
Set the PIN group on the BAG… and I believe you might find that the arm/hand collisions work well enough 1> to hold the strap 2. Grope around in the bag…
Would have to see if during the animation/simulation that you can disable the pin group, but then the bag will fall to the floor…
“and I believe you might find that the arm/hand collisions work well enough 1> to hold the strap 2. Grope around in the bag…”
Yeah, but is there a way to visualize this (and other things like pulling up a shirt) while I animate because I’m not sure if Blender’s implementation of bullet allows for real time cloth simulation.
Don’t quote me on this as I haven’t checked as yet but I believe you can add your character as an animated avatar and then do the simulation on the cloth…I need to check that in my copy…
