How to change guide hair initial rotation

Hello!

This question has been asked 3 years ago but nobody answered it and maybe something has been improved in blender: Guide hair initial rotation?

Basically I’d like to create realistic hair curls and to do so I want half of curls to be rotated 90 degrees around their axis. To achieve it I’ve duplicated particle system and changed their curled children phase to negative value. It looks good from one side but from second side hair are still synchronized (see attached screenshots).

What I would really want is to actually rotate guiding hair by 90 degrees so curls of two particle systems rotate around each other instead of just having opposite phases. Any help? I’m attaching blender file I use:

To rotate hair you just activate advanced in the particles tab under the particle type selection and check the rotation box in a tab below. To limit this rotation you can add this rotated hair as a seperate particle system. I don’t know what the twist option under vertex group means. You can rotate the hair by hand in particle edit by editing the points of the starnds directly.

Yeah, I forgot to mention it. Using Advanced settings and Rotate doesn’t do anything in this case. You can try it on the blender file I’ve attached. Also rotating particles manually doesn’t do anything as well (and I’d rather avoid manual editing of hair at this point).
