Hi! Welcome to BlenderArtists. We have been around for over a decade, and this forum has answered lots of common questions. We have a search feature located at the top of this page, and you can find many answers to your questions and issues by searching and researching what others have already asked and answered. Good luck and have fun!
Good answer.
i try
I think we should rename “Search” to “Fish” and that way we teach others how to…
It is never bad to be polite.
Instead scolding the new users you can write:
“Hey! Look what the forum search engine found just by using “cloth” and “modeling” keywords
http://blenderartists.org/forum/search.php?searchid=1190265”
Also " News & Discussion" section is not the best place to find answers about Modeling something.
Thanks Syziph for your help !
With ur kind respect let me remind u that scolding someone make u unhelpful and unlikly! More over u suggestion to search the forum like this take lots of time for noob like me ! And if u have time than why do u not search for me ![]()
I couldn’t agree more with your comments dude.
@papasmurf: If you’ve been here over a decade, and you don’t want to answer anybodies questions, then don’t reply! It is that simple. That was just rude:eek:. Syziph said it the way you should have. Not much of a welcome to the new comer I felt.
@bapi: I hope you don’t take this the wrong way dude.
More over u suggestion to search the forum like this take lots of time for noob like me !
I thought that was the case here, especially as this being a newer feature.
But respect goes a long way too
And if u have time than why do u not search for me
This can be taken the wrong way! Blend on!
I went thru search and could not find suitable tutorial for my question?
Ant link to such tutorial will help helpfull or just explain me the basic concept of creating cloth !
@ bapi try this out maybe it will help!
http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/BlenderDev/ClothSimulation
And link to the coders page who gave us this feature!
I found it under the blender wiki not here.
I am unfamiliar with this feature myself, so I can only give you the above link to try out. Sorry. Hope it helps!
bapi - I’m glad that it helped!
Guys, don’t take my message wrong. I am not pointing specially at PapaSmurf. From his posts number you can tell he have been here for a decent time and I am sure such posts and comments will never end
I just had an idea how to approach such question. Just give the link to the guy and give him some time to accomodate.
Best regards to everybody!
The above is in no way an impolite or rude response to the original post. I don’t quite understand why all the hypersensitivity? PapaSmurf responded with a polite direction toward teaching the original poster self help in a discrete and respectful manner. Am I missing something here?
I agree. I’ve seen it phrased a lot worse.
The Blender Wiki has a lot of information. Here is what I found searching it using “Cloth.” as the search term.
Bapi: I apologize if you take offense at me trying to help guide you on your quest for knowledge. I want you to use the tools (the Search function specifically) that are available to you. Many times, new users that post FAQ get upset when no one answers their question right away. To avoid that, if they would only use the Search function, they would be able to answer the question themselves. In my culture, I have a saying “Feed a man a fish, and you have fed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you have fed him for a lifetime.” I was trying to teach you how to “fish” for knowledge on how to clothe a character using softbody or cloth.
Syziph, Searches done for a person, where you do the search and post the link to that search, do not last forever, and the links go bad. It is best for the knowledge seeker to seek knowledge based on current knowledge.
Here are 39 threads that I have posted to, where your question has been partially or totally answered. If you have the time to read and learn from them, please click on this link and enjoy. http://blenderartists.org/forum/search.php?searchid=1190471.
Here is a link to over 250 articles where your question has been partially or totally answered: http://blenderartists.org/forum/search.php?searchid=1190479
PapaSmurf, I didn’t know that the search result links have such short life. My mistake! This is something that could be improved?!
Maybe direct links to the threads will do the job, because most of the more experienced “knowledge seekers” already know which thread is worth seeing.
For example this one:
http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=97413&highlight=cloth+modeling
Simply telling “Use the search engine!” could lead to finding threads that advize you to do a search
which is useless and time consumming.
If somebody finds this thread (which has a well defined topic title!) looking for the same problem will have at least one usefull link that will give him some hope.
bapi:
Here is an old tutorial about modeling of soldier clothes. Unfortunately I can’t find it anywhere else:
http://www.the3dstudio.com/product_details.aspx?id_product=2992
Registration is needed and the tutorial is free.
It is for 3DS Max but you can get the basic idea.
Cheers!
I used “scolding” not in the bad sense but to exaggreate the value of this type of answer. I don’t see any real scolding here
go to 3dtutorials.sk
on the right there will a box to select software
choose blender
browse a bit and you’ll see a tutorial labeled
“Clothing for Makehuman”
This tuts provides clothing in the most basic form.
I will not provide a link as I’m generally against advertising for other websites less I’m being paid.
Here is more advanced information.
http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=97413&highlight=softbody+clothing
I suggest you do the make human tutorial first.
There is almost the infamous Joan of Arc tutorial by Michael Rogers.
In the future please try to post request for help in the appropriate subforum. More so to quell the fury of the big bads (no pun intended) than anything.
Happy Blending
Well today i was searching for tests on programing skills and what was what i got where just links to tools for making tests about skills in general where no need of programming skills was assumed. stupid search engines (sometimes) - the pattern was for german search words but that doesent matters i think. But finding the right search words can be complicated especially if not native language in which one searches.
Just a note to anyone who searches for how to make cloth in the help forums: THE METHOD HAS CHANGED! heheh. ( old method = Knife tool + Alt S … new method = retopo tool )
Not that it helps any, but THIS is a kick ass method to cloth your character. Source code included. Maybe something to think about for project Durian.
After bitter and sweet test form this thread, I must say thank for help and advice to all the person who joint this thread! ------------------------------------------------ PapaSmurf : Now i know that ur intention was to help me and all other noob. Syziph : Thank again for ur special help AND toontje, Modron, ropsta, lexi, linuxpimp2, ~ox{, grafixsuz, kernond
First Question should be if he is using 2.45 (then Softbody is only option) or some SVN/Graphicall.org/RC-Build (then he could use the new cloth module).
@toontje: I wonder where the source of the paper you linked could be. Nothing there - only some useless java executable.
Greetings
