how to crash blender 2.44

Bug tracker do not work for me - i can’t log in
(2 times registered and confirmed mail)
i hope someone can post it for me
http://projects.blender.org/tracker/?atid=125&group_id=9&func=browse

how to crash blender?

  1. change bottom-window (in 2-model layout) to text-editor window
  2. maximize with ctrl+up
  3. switch to next window layouts with ctrl+right (few times)

i use xpsp2

yep I can confirm this crash (using XP)

second confirmation for XP. It allso happens with other windows (like buttons)
(console stays clean)

Hi, I have a similar bug :

  • create a cube

  • duplicate it

  • “edit mode” and delete all its faces

  • with retopo-paint draw few lines on the (first) cube

  • don’t apply the retopo but maximize/minimize the 3d window (CTRL+UP / CTRL+DOWN)

on my pc and WIN XP-Ubuntu32 Blender CRASH!
It’s not 100% reproducible, but sometimes it “works”
.
(warning: bad english!)

I can confirm here to. Running winxpsp2 and blender 2.44.

“it works”.

Confirmed under Linux (Slackware, kernel2.6.17.13) with 2.44 as well.

i posted in bug tracker. #6828

Peng, when you delete all its faces, you have an object without any vertices or any definition. trying to do a retopo or paint makes no sense; there is nothing to paint or retopo.

Hi PapaSmurf,

I meant “delete the faces of the second (duplicated) cube” the one needed for retopo as you can see in the document : http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Manual/Retopo#Step_Two

sorry, my poor english…

anyway, in both cases (with or without the second cube) blender crashes (at least on my pc)
thanks

Works for me also!

Confirmed.

It crashed in 2.44 but not any other verson. However, I saved the file right before the last Ctrl+Right and loaded it into blender 2.42 and 2.42 also crashed.

confirmed for linux SVN build. Now to fix it.

cheers,

Bob

Perhaps it just me, but I tried all of the above, and my Blender refused to die…
I’m going to try a wooden stake, holy water and garlic next… Wish me Luck!!!

xpsp2, can confirm first bug, not the second.

Ive found another bug related to maximizing windows, but I cant recall the exact steps now.

Doesn’t do it on the model view for me but I have that view customized but when I tried it in Animation view, it crashed - OS X version.

The trace was this if it helps:

Thread 0 Crashed:
0 org.blenderfoundation.blender 0x000752b6 text_buttons + 37
1 org.blenderfoundation.blender 0x0002f180 scrarea_do_headdraw + 275

Use a displacement modifier on a mesh and then use an edge split modifier right after that with autosmooth on, I guarantee you Blender will crash if you try to render.

i got it to crash in OS X using the method described in the first post.

Fix for the bug mentioned by the thread starter is in the SVN.
