How to create a decent water flow effect

Hi everyone. I have to create some stills and and a 3/4sec animation of some kind of plant used to clean water. It’s pretty schematic so I just need to show something nice but not necessarily realistic. The client just has to understand the flow of the water, pretty much. For the animation I thought about animating a one-axis-scaled noise texture along the same axis so it seems like it’s moving. Do you have better ideas? I have more problems with the stills, though. I thought about using an arrow head and an array+curve modifiers to have them follow the piping but I’m not sure, maybe there are better ideas… any suggestion? Thanks a lot
P.S. I posted in modelling because of the array but it can also just be a texture of course

I think arrows are a good idea.

Or…what about putting some leaves on the surface…?? (edit) maybe not right for this project…thought i had a good idea for a moment.

Hi, I think arrows along wavy spline could work well.
Like in this image:
flow
or in 3d:

Or like in this app:

Thank you guys, in the end i went for the array+curve, altough i still struggle a bit with the curve modifier. Everytime it drives me crazy (i guessi should study it a bit better  ). I also animated the number or arrays and maybe i’ll use that instead of the stretched noise for the animation.
Have a good one

You also could have used animated texture for the arrows.

True, true. I tried but the tubes are sometimes taking weird twists and they were messing up the arrows. But i tried with a wave texture set to rings and it worked like a charm
