How to fix this

I think I have discovered why one ought to insert new objects in the top view. I have a situation where I have added objects in the top view and a side view. It seems that some of my faces are showing their materials at 90 deg from the other objects. I also have some objects showing at 45 deg.

Is there a simple way to get them to all show their materials in the same way?:confused:
