How to make exploded view

Hello! So I vaguely remember seeing someone use an empty and be able to explode specific meshes and then return them to their original location but can’t find anything on google, or anywhere really.

I have my empty and the parts to my mesh setup with parenting and just need to be able to separate it, and return it to it’s original state. How should I go about that?

Set the origin of your mesh parts to the empty, scale the empty

Unfortunately I need to keep the origin at the current position to retain my pivot when I export.

Try selecting every part and then enable in Active Tool and Workspace settings → Options → Transform → Affcect Only: Locations… now scale/explode as you like…

Tried that and maybe because of origins it didn’t separate as expected. Ended up duplicating and animating. Bit annoying everything will explode at once but will suffice.

… so you want different explosions… ? That would be more a presentational disassemble animaton…

I’m going off memory here, but recall there being a way to go to exploded view of each mesh individually.

Like you have one group of objects parented to an empty, and then something is done to spread them all out and then move them all back whenever you want. My current method is a decent workaround though.

Doesn’t need to be pretty or animated, it’s just for exporting, none of this is to be used in blender in the end.

Yes, but it involves changing the origin points of the objects, and you didn’t want to do that :person_shrugging:

It’s 5 part window shutters with origins in specific places so they pivot correctly, moving them to explode and export would defeat the purpose of this being efficient unfortunately

Anyway, duplicating and spreading alone, should work. Appreciate the suggestions and help!
