How to make it look real

this feels a lot fake…how can i make it look more real

Your geometry is pretty basic, The textures are generic or missing, the lighting looks like a single point light 3" above the gun, and the backdrop isn’t much.

Start with adding more details to the geometry. For a good source of details on the 1911, check out cncgunsmithing.com They have a full set of 1911 blueprints.

what did you mean by missing textures??

add some bevel and some textures

Everything other than the grips and background (why do they have the same material, btw?)

Take a look at this model of the same firearm:

See how much more attention to detail was paid to every aspect of the render? There are so much more details in the modeling, the lighting, the texturing, there’s wear and tear and all materials have a natural feeling.

Just on the modeling side your render feels basic, unrefined, “blocky”. That alone leaves a dent in the viewers’ perception of “reality” that is hard to overcome.

I suggest not adding more detail or textures. In fact, get rid of all textures and try making materials that look real without any textures at all. In this case, make it look real without wear and tear. You can add wear and tear later but at the moment it just adds a layer of complexity.

The crucial part about getting materials to look right is learning everything about reflectance and roughness. It is not important that you understand the exact math but it is very useful to know how reflectance behaves with differing angle of incidence and how it differs in dielectric and metallic surfaces.

Textures, bumpmaps and all that stuff are important, too, but getting reflectance and roughness right is (usually) the most important part of you are aiming for realism.
